Rising to the Challenge

- A Costco member loved green phalaenopsis orchids, so our EVP traveled to Taiwan and worked with our breeders and growers to find a brilliantly green new variety. Rocket Farms put approximately 10,000 units into production -all for one customer. When they call, we listen.
- Based on customer requests for a special gift involving more than just an orchid, we were the first company to develop the concept of integrating orchids with ferns, ivys, moss and curly willow. Since then we have sold many hundreds of thousands of these orchid gardens.
- After a customer wanted more double spike orchids, we worked with our breeders to find varieties that grew more double spikes, as well as conducting research in our own greenhouse to find out what conditions would produce more doubles. As a result we went from approximately 38% doubles to almost 81% on many varieties, providing enough product for customer to run a year round program of doubles only.
- Rocket Farms set a precedent by certifying an entire 40 acre growing facility for food safety when previous safety protocol was only for open fields or processing plants, all in order to meet a customer request to go above and beyond standard practices.
- As popular as poinsettias are during the holidays, they are a highly technical crop that is difficult to grow. In order to provide our customers with a higher quality product with a longer shelf life, Rocket farms partnered with Ecke Ranch, the largest and oldest poinsettia breeding company. Now our growers receive an unprecedented level of trained on the latest growing techniques to produce a consistent high quality product, and they have a certificate to prove it.
- Rocket Farms and Nurserymen’s Exchange announced the creation of the Institute for Floriculture Innovation (IFI) in August 2011. IFI will be an international think tank for the best minds in both horticulture and design, dedicated to exploration, education and inspiration in the floriculture industry and to driving consumer awareness and demand.
